The idea of having a ringing ear seems absurd but what you may not know is that hundreds of millions in the world are afflicted by this hearing trouble. If you have been hearing ringing in your ears, you have to read further. Lots of people do not know about this condition called tinnitus. Even those who have it do not completely understand what it is. This article aims to warn people that anybody who does not take the necessary precautions can be affected.

People who disregard the warning signs become susceptible to damage. The world abounds with factors, which if left unchecked become potential hazards. Truth is you do not pay attention. You do not take care of your hearing, thinking as if it stays well forever. To tell you, it does not.

Noise is the leading cause of ringing ear. The world abounds with damaging noise. You step out into the street corners and there you go – traffic noise, cars hooting their horns, and engines.

People think they can get accustomed to loud sound. Some stay in disco houses and karaoke bars oblivious of what possible harm the banging music can do to their ears. Others enjoy their stereos at home to be played at high volumes. Teens love tuning their iPods at maximum. These practices will soon take a toll in your ears.

Tinnitus occurs because of damage to the delicate structures in the inner ear. The vibrations that reach the inner ear are then captured by the hair cells in the cochlea. These fluid bathed cells transmit impulses to the brain. However, they are not able to tolerate loud sound. Excessive sound destroys the hair cells. Damaged cells emit abnormal signals, which the brain interprets as noise or tinnitus.

You perceive the noise without apparent source. They originate within the auditory system. This acoustic trauma to the hair cells is irreparable. That means once the damage is set, there is no way of putting back the delicate cells to normal functioning. One way of interpreting this is that most likely your tinnitus is going to be permanent, especially if it is noise damage in origin.

Sufferers perceive the unpleasant noise in different ways. Lots of patients hear constant ear ringing. But others hear hissing, clicking, thumping, or roaring sound. The quality of the noise and its severity vary from person to person. Many sufferers have manageable condition. They can even continue to function normally. A few others are gravely afflicted that they have to be under constant professional assistance.

Ringing ear symptoms do not usually get worse. But if you experience it, do not hesitate to seek medical help.
